Overview: Novelty bowling ball styled as a soccer ball, made by San Antonio-based 900 Global, one of the fastest growing bowling ball manufacturers in the industry. Polyester coverstock, sanded finish, and 3-pancake core make this a great ball for intermediate players looking to hit a middle-pin spare, or for making good beginners (who toss everything straight down the middle) look great. It will also make beginners look like they brought the wrong equipment to the bowling alley. But that's what makes this ball so fun
Appreciate: This is just one great ball among many in 900 Global's lineup. For more sophisticated equipment (that actually looks like a bowling ball), opt for something more like 900 Global's "Train," which features a hybrid reactive cover stock and something called NEAT finish technology. NEAT stands for Natural Engineered Abrasive Technology, which is somewhat complicated to explain, but essentially means that on a microscopic level, the surface of the ball contains a very uniform pattern (like tread on a snow tire), as opposed to a more typical variegated pattern (like toppings on a pizza) on most other balls. This gives it consistent grip, and thus, predictable control on extra oily lane surfaces. The Train also has what 900 Global calls the Combustion Core, which again, you need an PhD to understand, but it basically means in the middle of the ball is a symmetric shaped weighted mass that has little arms extending outward from the middle, and this gives the ball control. The Diego Files apologizes to 900 Global for the verbal massacre we've made of these highly advanced features
Know: If the idea of a bowling ball that looks like a soccer ball isn't novel enough for you, then consider 900 Global's RC900, which is a battery powered remote control bowling ball. Probably intended more for children but just as good for inebriated college folk, the RC900 allows you to launch your ball from a ramp (or, you can roll it yourself, if you're into that sort of thing) and then "steer" it down the lane to the pins using a handheld remote. Between the soccer ball and the RC900 you're probably thinking this company is run by clowns and adolescents, but seriously they make pro-circuit balls as well, so stop your giggling and have a look at their more advanced equipment at 900global.com
Special Comments: The Soccer Ball is available in 8, 10, 12 and 14-15 pound weights, so it's good for a range of bowlers. In addition to balls, 900 Global manufactures their own lines of bowling shoes, which are gaining notoriety for their exceptional comfort. They also make smart-looking and smart-functioning ball bags, including their Deluxe Bags series for airline travel, which can carry three balls and assists you in doing so with wheels (bowling balls are heavy, you see)
