Filed Under: Solutions today, heirlooms tomorrow.
Overview: Handmade leather goods by talented designer, artist, and craftsman Noah Marion. More than this season's accessories, these products are long-term solutions, designed to have two lives: one for you now; the other for the lucky someone else you pass them along to, many years down the line. Noah Marion is committed to creating products that improve over time, avoid the fate of landing in a landfill, and that will be held by future generations with as much appreciation for their quality and purpose as we hold them today. Travel totes, dog collars, iPad sleeves, coin catchalls, and all goods by Noah Marion are made using undyed, natural vegetable tanned leather, leaving the ultimate finish to you. He personally stitches them on his classic Pfaff 130 sewing machine, itself in its second life (its first, with Noah's dad). Now: Locate the nearest leather product you own, and ask yourself if you know the name of who made it, on what kind of machine, and what contribution you make to its character. Unsatisfied? Along comes Noah Marion, with his leather goods for life
Appreciate: That each product has to work for Noah Marion, before he gives it a chance to work for you. Find him out and about in Austin, Texas, and you'll find him carrying a prototype of some kind: a yet-to-be-released bag, for example, that he's studying, critiquing, improving. He's as much an engineer and inventor as he is a trained interior and architectural designer, always seeking to make not just what looks great, but what truly provides a solution to a problem. As a result, pockets are where you need them to be. Straps are easy to hold, and clasps truly keep it closed. And, Savannah Cats stay close to home. True story: Noah Marion originally designed the Custom Harness (pictured above, lower right) to help a Texas family walk their Savannah Cat, essentially a large version of a house cat, but rather unwieldy, and prone to stray. He solved their problem, and he can solve yours, too: he'll get the measures on your pet, create a custom harness just for you (with matching lead), and you can walk your cat with confidence and style
Know: Above, we've pictured just seven of many available products by Noah Marion. At center is the JetSetter Tote, one of our favorites, as is the handsome Dopp Kit to its right. Also pictured: the Scarf Wrap, upper left; Glasses Carrier and Catchall, left center and lower, respectively; and the clever Molded Wallet, upper right. Make sure you visit Noah Marion's website to see even more. And if by chance you don't see exactly what you're looking for, drop him a note to see if he'll accept a commission to make a special design just for you. A perch for your Savannah Parrot, perhaps
Special Comments: As you might expect, handmade leather goods by Noah Marion are made to order, so you'll need to allow 6-7 production days for most items prior to shipping. When they arrive, you'll find your new leather goods in a hand-sewn dust cover with an intricate leather tag, two little previews of the beautiful handmade work inside
Cost: $300 for the JetSetter Tote; Custom Harness, $150; Dopp Kit, $100; Molded Wallet, $65; both the Daily Catchall and Glasses Carrier are $50; and the Scarf Wrap is $25
