Filed Under: You may be the master, but your dog can be the masterpiece.
Overview: Custom portrait of your best friend (or your best acquaintance, if you have a cat) hand-painted on reclaimed wood, burned with fire at the details for special artistic effect, fitted within its own custom frame, and adorned with a brass name plate. If your dog licks his portrait, that's not him being a dog; that's him breaking through and finally understanding art
Appreciate: The man and the method behind your portrait. Wounded Wood is the artistic shop of a talented Austinite named Greg, who has over 30 years of experience as a craftsman, artist, designer, and animator. His preferred material is reclaimed wood, which, make no mistake, does not mean bad wood. On the contrary, Greg uses rich woods like Long Leaf Pine, Oak, Mesquite, and Cedar that he finds discarded around Austin at building sites and similar locales, and finishes them with Tung Oil or a similar water-based application to enrich them even more for aesthetics and longevity. Your portrait will be made out of whichever of these woods Greg has on-hand when you commission the work, which adds even more uniqueness to your custom piece
Know: If you hate wood, are allergic to wood, or otherwise for some reason object to your pet's likeness being burned onto wood, Greg also offers custom hand-painted prints, produced on archival paper in 8"x10" or larger sizes, easy to frame. Have a look at his Etsy shop for some examples, and you'll see these have a uniquely colorful and even cartoon-like style, which no doubt reflect Greg's experience as a professional animator. Just as impressive as his wooden portraits, really, and offered at a lower price of $75 for the standard size. We say, if you really love your pet you'll order one in each style
Special Comments: The Wounded Wood shop offers more than just pet portraits; have a look in particular at the amazing fire-burned details in his Outlaw Woodburning series. Those guys look scary
