Hometown: San Angelo
Filed Under: "Dear Big & Old Boot Maker: Heads up . . . A little San Angelo gal is fixin' to out-boot you. Sincerely, Texas"
Overview: Gorgeous and perfectly fitted custom cowboy boots by the carefree and clever Sarah Stokes, formerly of the United States Marine Corps (thank you Sarah!) and Harvard Business School. Stokes escaped the usual post-grad corporate tenure to launch Ranch Road Boots, inspired by the style and smiles of the old West Texas gentlemen she grew up with. Style and smiles are the operative terms here; Stokes' handmade boots evoke a whole lot of both. Prepare your ego, though: these boots are prettier than you, so the compliments will likely go to your feet
Appreciate: How they get the right fit. Every custom order at Ranch Road Boots begins with their Fit Kit. This is a handsome package you'll receive in the mail, complete with some token RR swag and more important, the tools you'll need to measure yourself. This includes a 7-point Foot Measuring Guide. Watch the video linked below to see Sarah demonstrate what the Guide will share; bottom line, you'll need two feet, and a friend who doesn't mind being near them. Your Fit Kit also includes swatches of Ranch Road's leather styles and colors; you can design your own combinations of Spanish Bull, Kangaroo, French Calf (oiu, oiu bebe vache!), or Buffalo (Ostrich and Crocodile are also available, at a higher price). Or, rather than design your own, you can choose from the styles already handsomely displayed at the outstanding Ranch Road website
Know: Pictured above from left to right are just three of a dozen or so available styles: the Honcho (our favorite), the Ira Went West, and the Marshall Dillon (our other favorite [editorial discretion]). Like all Ranch Road boots, they feature orthopedic créme cow lining, 3/4" stitched welts (like on combat boots), and lemonwood pegs in the soles. They also feature a distinctively novel Ranch Road mark (just visible on the Ira's above): a beautiful sterling silver nailhead from the nearly century-old, family-owned Holland's Jewelers of San Angelo. Heritage, nailed it
Special Comments: Ranch Road boots are handmade in the USA, so your custom order will take about 6-10 weeks to complete. If the wait is killing you, try imagining how difficult it must be for your feet (those Fit Kits are a tease!). And in the meantime, feel great knowing that a portion of your purchase will fund contributions to the Injured Marines Semper Fi Fund and the Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation. Always faithful
Cost: $1,195; $20 for a Fit Kit (applied toward purchase price)
